Hey Everyone. My name is Dustin Stanley and Im 19. I am buying a 1990 Nissan 240sx hatchback in a few weeks. I am new to most of this stuff but I know enough not to be entirely lost. I would like to know how to tell the difference between a Base model and the SE model. Anyone able to help me?

Searching.
Also the 240 forum.

Folks in Gen chat don't take kindly to 240 questions... just too damn many 240 kids on the site.

As far as I know off the top of my head, not a huge difference performance wise...
Stuff like alloy wheels, cruise control, electric windows, probably the digital dash that projects your speed on the windshield (or just breaks).

hi and welcome!
The SE came with power windows/locks. a sunroof and a leather seats option (IIRC)
and the base model didn't

then he'll do petty things like piss on the rug and knock over the trash can.

to be honest, you'd probably want a base S13 over the SE BUT power windows are nice...I hate sunroofs though and they take up a LOT of headroom in the cars.

the SE in the S14 however is a whole nother beast.

Mechanically they were the same. The 89-90 SE had one or both of the 2 optional trim packages. One was a luxury convenience package, the other was a sport package. The 89 SE hatchback I purchased new had both packages. The easiest way was to tell the SE from the base model with a quick glance was by the OEM (original) wheels (they were different) and a small SE badge on the trunk lid. Problem is now, many don't have the original wheels still on them, or if their back ends got repaired/replacing that little SE decal are often forgetten.

Sunroofs were a separate option.

As a 20 yr old car at this point, a 240sx's condition is a far more important factor than whether it was an SE or base model.

You'd expect his hands to be covered in hair too, but strangely they are the only part that doesn't have any...
