I found a 1985 300zx turbo for sale and the guy want $1500 for it. So im going to test drive the car sunday and im so excited. I have always loved the 300zx's and after my 1991 240zx was totalled by a tow truck rear ending me, im excited about the test drive, and the guy sounds like a real 300zx enthousist (sp?). I would love to buy it and fix it up and make it beautiful. I just wanted to share my joy with you all.

yeah, it has 206,000K and has a new engine, so I know the suspension is probably shot, so as long as the engine, transmission, and no big rust problems, it will be a great find, im really excited, i really want a project car.

once i get it underway, everything will be photographed.

well i test drove it

the rear driver's side shock is broken.

rust in normal places, like under trim and rusted through around the trim screws and around wheel wells

spedo doesnt work with most of the other gauges bc of that one cable.

the engine seems to be fine, im just not sure if its worth doing all the work on it

Hmmm...tempting I bet. But z31's in need of work are pretty common. If you can get him down on price I say go for it. Otherwise...I'd pass at 1500.

I'd like to see pics too though.

yeah, i need to know exactly what it needs before i can make my descision. but yeah i was thinking about offering him like $1300 since i know it needs a strut. but the mechanic knows more than me and what the car needs.

But it is a Turbo, and 1st gen turbos are rare around the cincinnati ohio

well at least it's a turbo, hopew the rust isn't too bad, last I knew Z31 quarters were not available in the aftermarket, as for the guages not working, I am gonna guess they are the digital? in which case, swap for the analog set up, and the rear springs are undersized from the factory, you can get a set of 88ss springs from the dealer through Nissan Motorsports, along with the 88ss sway bars, then you just need an intercooler and turn up the boost till the tires burn off

well he says that its just the cable, bc the boost gauge doesnt work either and he said all that will work when the cable is fixed, i dont really trust him on it, but thats y i want the mechanic to tell me what is wronge, and how much it will be to fix it.

My problem is i only have enough money to buy the car and thats it. I am expecting a check for about $2 grand in the next month or so to fix the car. So i guess when i buy the car ill just clean and sand down the rust till i get money.

if it's digital the cable has nothing to do with it, and the speedo cable has zero to do with the boost gauge either way, you might want to start looking at other Z's checking other larger metro areas withing a couple hours, to find the right car it's worth the effort

well im gonna buy the car, had it looked at by a firend of mine thats a mechanic on the side, he says the engine looks good, except the turbo has oil on it, but that it prolly nothing, but its not leaking any thing, so i dont know what with the turbo. but the rust isnt too bad compared to other 1985 Z31's.

the guy said he is getting the speedo cable replaced this week before he sells it to me. So if it fixes is, thats great, if it doesnt, ill just not some moeny off it.

Im gonna offer him $1300 when the cable is installed, and if he doesnt accept, work my way up to $1500.

So once i buy it ill find the digital camera and take some pics but this is my plan of fixing it.

Replace broken shockDigital gauge cluster if neededfull tune up with some belts and stuffreupholster seatsnew tires and possibly front break pads

Now i wont be driving it for awhile untill the shock and speedo works.

Im excited about getting a new car. Sorry if im posting too much. You guys no how it is. Cars are an addiction and my friends get bored when i talk about cars too much.

if there is oil inside the turbo outlet pipe you need a turbo rebuild, cost around $250 to have it done or do it yourself and save, the oil seal has gona bad and while it's apart best replace the bearings and seals

man i love the torque and power on this car, and how it throws me into the seat on every shift. but its running bad now bc it needs the rear struts and some lil engine work, it starts up fine it just has a hard time ideling and hesitates alot, still a very strong motor jst needs some tuning. waiting for money from the insurance company to fix her up
