i bought my 90 coupe with a 93 ka24de in it just to mess around with as a fun car. not my daily driver. Well since ive had it the car has had one main problem. As you drive in any gear it pulls nicely up to about 3200rpm then just falls flat on its face and has NO POWER at all. Still revs, but makes a ton of noise and goes nowhere. Also the car will not idle lower than like 1200 even with the idle screw all the way in!! also coming to a stop it will almost die unless i blip the trottle, then the idle comes up to 1200 again. I have since changed/replaced/checked these things

changed mafchanged ecuNo ecu codeschanged plugschanged wireschanged capchanged rotor91 DOHC camsnew upper chainfuel filterfuel pumpinjectorsTimed at 20 degrees

the only thing i have left i could possibly think it could be is a HUGE air leak, my CAS, or knock sensor or lower timing chain off a tooth?.....idk how it could be my CAS or knock sensor cuz im not gettin any codes for them. what it feels like to drive is pulls hard to 3200 then feels like someone just backed out like 20 degrees of timing!!!

i am about to buy a new motor, but i dont think this one is bad!! compression is good still 170 across the board

SOMEONE HELP PLZ!!!

that kinda sounds like air getting past the throttle body to me "IE" a huge vacume leak. check all the seals on the intake manifold and vacume lines going into it . good luck

yep, I'm inclined to agree it smells like a vac leak. Have you hooked up a vacuum gauge to the motor yet? Seriously if it's idlling at 1200 with the idle adjuster all the way in, there's something not quite right there and a significant amount of air is getting past that throttle body. Time to start poking around and replacing hoses, cleaning that iacv, and squirting some brake cleaner at the joints between the intake manifold -> head, intake manifold runners to collector, and so on. When you find a vac leak through those parts, you'll see the brake cleaner get sucked in.

If all else fails you might try replacing the IACV or if you know anyone with same car you can put theirs on yours temporarily to see if it fixes the problem.

would a vac leak on a NA motor be that much of a problem? i could see if it was a boost leak. but ive had vac leaks before, never gave me this much of a problem. and would always make me run rich and i would backfire

anyone think it could be my lower timing chain off by a tooth? causing my cams to be off by like 20 degrees because they are timed off the main sprocket....would that cause all my symptoms?

have you tested your tps? your car wont idle right if a closed throttle signal is not recived. also an out of range tps will cause problems as you stated . idle is about .5 volts and wide open is aprox 4.9-5volts. if it drops out there may be an open in the internal resistor.

Yes it could. I had the same accel problem that you are describing. It would pull fine til 3500 rpms or so and after that it would pretty much stop accelerating even at WOT. Do your cams look like they are in the right positions at TDC? Mine weren't.

yeah mine look right facing away at TDC. but ima take a closer look today and see how close to facing away they are...being off by one tooth on the bottom chain would only make the cams off by like 15 degrees by looking at them right?

anyone think it could be knock sensor? cuz i get no continuity through the harness with an ohm meter
