NOOO dont get it!! its a horrible car, and will empty your wallet and ruin your life. You should give it to me!!!

Depends on how much that you can pick it up for. With dead cylinders, it could be anything and you could get in way deeper than you expect. but it could be easy like cap and rotor. never know. its best guess with these guys.

as for the timing chain guide noise, thats easy to fix. its all up to the buyer and how much he/she wants to dump into it. id have to see pics of the body and frame rails to see if its worth it. but id say anything under 500 is good for a vert, unless you have rust everywhere and the top is hit.

Wow she? woot!! old lady? i just ran across an old lady with a vert at my girls school. trying to talk her into selling it to me.

o yeah about your vert there,.... take it. thats a steal. and even if the engine is shot and its a junk car.....check the frame rails and usualy s13 rust spots first....its worth that. if you have to part it you can get more than your money back. but id say do it. good deal, as long as not a ton of rust!!

Get it. Totally worth it. Two dead cylinders are most likely injectors and they are easy to replace.

DUDE, its the perfect opportunity! It's like you could kill two birds with one stone! Get the car and get the girl all in one easy transaction! It's looking real good dude. I would definitely pay $500 for it. Too bad the trans was rebuilt, now you can't logically justify the 5spd swap

This sounds like a pretty good steal...plus a good platform for an SR swap.

I'm taking the KA out of my vert and putting in an SR in April, if you're interested in the KA we can talk. I'm in Raleigh. KA has 93k original miles and only needs a new timing belt (cheap and easy when the motor is out). Just had it checked by a mechanic and it runs well.

lmao..

but seriously, buy that car, or give me details so I can go pick it up.

Anyways, a timing chain noise will be somewhat like a tick, or like it is hitting something (the plastic guide), that may have broke. It will be consistent usually.

A bad timing chain will bend your valves and your car will run like ****, if at all.

Timing chain gone bad, the car wont run, or turn over, and if it does you will hear the wonder sound of the pistons hitting the valves and bending them. kas are interference engines. what that means is that when the valves are fully compressed,"pushed down into the cylinder", they are in the direct path of the piston. so if your timing is off, or the chain is way to sloppy and the tensioners arnt doing their job, you will bend those valves cause the "pushing" is at the wrong time, and the hit.

i know thats was laymans terms, but i hope you get it!!

You know I find it funny how everyone gets this symptom with KAs, but never have I heard a valve hitting a piston because of it.

I'm not saying that the KA isn't an interference engine, I just don't get it

My 22re in my Toyota is an interference engine as well and has the same symptoms that almost always lead to damaged valves.

its a mild interference engine, you have to be 55* or so retarded for it to hit, and that is way off, unless you have aftermarket cams, or high load springs. but in a stock engine, at stock timing, the piston has ample time to clean the valve.

See look at that. You get the car for $500 and you find a boot worth half what you paid for the car! Sell the boot and you have yourself a $300~$250 car. Never pass up a deal that good.

This could possibly be a vacuum leak, which is about 30 seconds and free.

And the timing chain is easy unless you lower one is rattling too, like mine, in which case you need to remove your oil pan.

If your lower guide broke and ended up in your oil pan then where is the rattling coming from?
