Im looking for a TT and came across this nicely built 300zx. The guy says that it smokes like a train due to blown oil seal on passenger side turbo. Car only has about 6,000 miles on this engine but turbos went out and car has just sat for the last 2-3 years except for the occasional cranking and short drive. I was wondering if it would be possible to turn off the boost and drive it like that untill i save up for new turbo. Car has a lot of goodies inside it, so it's a little pricey. So my question is would it be possible/would it be harmful to the car/sould i do it? Thanks for all input

can't just "turn the turbos off" as they are part of the exhaust system and air flows through them.

Yep, you are screwed. There is no way to drive the car with the bad turbo. If you have to fix one you better fix the other too because it will not be far behind. Turbo replacement involves pulling the motor ($1000+ at any mechanic shop) and the turbo will be about $1500 for rebuild. I think you should go ahead and buy it but know what kind of money you are looking at. Z32's are expensive especially the tt's.

if you have the skills and toos to pull the turbo's you can have them rebuild for about $300 each, and your gonna want to do both at the same time, if you shop around for replacements you can get a new OE sized pair for about $1200, no way to bypass them

how bad is the oil seal? have you pulled the hardpipes? if you have a small line of oil you can drive ti fotr a while just try to keep out of boost, if however the inside of the pipes is coated your gonna need to fix it or park it

dude my first turbos costed 200 bucks used, and they came along with manifolds, intercoolers, etc. I would check out ebay, and if you know what your doing u can swap out the dead turbos yourself.

Not saying it is easy, but its not hard for someone who marks everything and understands about basic engines

If your interested in sellin the car too, let me know, I never can get enough of Zs
