Im a newbie and had a few questions

General discussion forum about the 240sx, and a great place to introduce yourself to the board!

I have a 1990 240sx with the red top putting out 10lbs of boost. I have percision front mount intercooler, hks intake , 3 inch's all the way back from the turbo tannabe exhaust , walbro 255 fuel pump ,got rid of the engine fan and put electric fans. What is a quick and easy way to up my hp my car run 14's right now i broke 13.9 once i also have fuel cut at 125 mph at 5 grand on my tach, and would like to break both of those problems. Im 16 and all i know is how to drive my car beat on it and have my dad fix it or pay to have it fixed i feel guilty that i dont work on my own car and my dad pays for it but i cant help that. is there any suggestion i can do i would like to be putting out alot more hp i also run 110oct cam 2 racing fuel when i run her at the track is that a waste of time and money or do you think it works. im looking to be put into 12 sec 1/4 mile or high 11's but i understand that would take a great deal of money time and patients

i would recommend 700cc injectors,and maybe a new cam,and new crank then add a bov(blow off valve),add the bosch 4 point spark plugs for cleaner burning= more horse,then add new spark plugs,then get a boost controller and a new greddy turbo kit stage 2,new flat top pistons,all these upgrades should make you run about high9's

I dont understand? You baught this car with Sr20 already installed? (if thats the case you dnt deserve your car...J/K) Or you were just never on this board? You can always go for a bigger turbo.

Another thing I dont understand why would your ecu turn off your fuel at 125, doesnt the SR ecu, eliminates the speed limit.

Hey man,

Welcome to the boards.

To answer some of your questions, running high octane fuel WILL improve your performance (a little)... though it's no substitute for good tuning and driving. Also, before you start going nuts with upgrading your car, find out what's up with that fuel cut. I'm not super familiar with the SR ECU, but I know that the fuel cut is not normal and may be indicative of a different problem... though I'm not exactly sure what that could be. Hope it works out!

i have an hks bov super sequential i ran her at the track today and i ran a 13.8 at 103 mph that was the best ive done i want to build the engine for a bigger turbo so i can put out tons of boost and horsepower so..... what dose anyone suggest for that cam shafts gears, head gasket, valve springs and besides injectors and sparkplugs all i now is i want to be in the 12's or faster

thanks for everyones help you guys are really cool thanks for the warm welcome i found out that my engine has a govenor on it at that speed 125 at 5 grand on the tach so i was told to go to hks and get the speed cut eliminator. but i donno should i have the sr20det bored out my dads friend builds drag racing engines and that was one thing i thought of doing????

I don't know about this cylinder bore idea. I've heard of people stroking out the SR to 2.2L with great results, though I would be hesitant to do even that.

If you're REALLY hardcore about dragging, you need to ditch the SR. Sorry. It's really not much of a drag engine, and most people would agree that a similarly tuned and turboed KA-T will beat an SR all day on the strip. FYI, the KA is the stock engine that the USDM S13 chassis was built with. MANY people have turboed this engine with amazing results, considering all the bad press it gets outside of the Nissan community.

It seems like you're in a particularly lucky position. Your dad seems cool and he seems to have all the right friends. If you can pull it off, you should consider a BIGGER engine. A heavy build on a KA24DE and subsequent turbo system will give you some real nice numbers on the track. So would an RB25DET.

However, the more displacement means more torque, which usually translates to better ETs. If you don't care about keeping it Nissan, a lot of people have had luck dropping SBCs in the engine bay.

Of course, if you keep working with the SR, you might have the results you're looking for. Just go into it knowing that it's not the "do-it-all" miracle engine a lot of people seem to think it is.

my friend has a rb25det of coarse his dad owns 8 car dealerships and one being a nissan dealership i want to do stuff with the sr20det b/c people around her dont really do that and its different i would like to do a rb26dett but cost to much and weighs a ton so i found out i just blew my turbo gasket so we are upgrading WHOOOOWAAAAAAA.

wow kid, your parents must be LOADED...well good luck w/ that...one thing that will probably improve your ET's are some mickey thompson drag slicks or something of the like...;) happy trails bro...dont forget to document your turbo swap w/ photos

i do have pics but i dont know how to post them ??? my car was invovled in an accident 2 weeks ago and i was charged with drag racing so while my car is in getting fixed the owner of the shop is taking the 300z mass air flow sensor, jim wolfe ecu, 550 injectors and greddy i think its e back system the one you use your lap top for im picking up for 1100 bux he's selling it to me as a package and then i have to get the turbo so..... this sux balls ill keep you updated on the car and how the results of me not getting charged its retarded there saying i raced a cavalier with some dumb ***** driving who cut me off and caused the accident. also how do i post pics??
