To pull off the climate control unit, it is easier to remove the stereo and pocket mount unit first. Once this is taken out, you can remove the four screws holding the climate control unit and lower it down where the stereo was. Then pry open the slot on the left (ontop of A/C unit) and you will be able to see the two bulb mounting "tabs". Just turn it counterclockwise and use something to pull them out. As for the dimmer, you might want to check to see if the dimmer switch is actually plugged in. If your car had a previous owner, he/she may have cut or totally removed the plug from the back of the switch.carcrazyguy wrote:This is an S13.I initally wondered about the bulb inside the HVAC control and wanted to pull the HVAC control panel out of the car, but never actually figured out how to remove it completely, and didn't want to break anything to remove it. I guess I will search around for that. Regardless, since the illumination for the shifter and ashtray are not working (yet with good bulbs) then the bulb in the HVAC is likely OK too - and the problem elsewhere and related I would think.Another thing I noticed is that the dimmer switch on the left of the steering wheel has no effect at all - in other words, no matter what you do with it, the dash stays lit the same. Any ideas?
Thanks, I will look into that tomorrow if the weather is OK. That makes sense that maybe the switch is bypassed or something.BTW, do you know if there is a control unit for the illumination system?NCturbo75 wrote:To pull off the climate control unit, it is easier to remove the stereo and pocket mount unit first. I will check that out for sure. If that is all it turns out to be, that would be too easy!I guess I also need to browse over the schematics for the ill. system in the FSM too.NCturbo75 wrote:I'm not sure if there is any. I believe that all the dimmer controls is in the the dimmer switch itself. Perhaps, you might have a bad switch. It's worth a look.
How can the dimmer work on both if they are not on the same circuit?ISUJinX wrote:FYI, Illumination for HVAC is o na separate circuit than the the dash lights. I'm still working on getting my HVAC stuff to light up after my RB swap, but my Dash works just fine. As for my cig lighter.... thats another story all together. My fuse box is somewhat melted around that area :-p
