from what i've recalled, don't use this illumination wire

reason: your aftermarket has it's own illumination circuit...

some1 else can back me up on this; i was just surfing around

Indeed, there is no need to hook up that wire.

my new pioneer head unit has an illumination wire, but i've noticed the difference is so insanely minimal that i can barely tell. am i using the right wire in the car? =/ i tested w/ voltmeter and i thought i had the right one. there are 2 orange ones, one with a white stripe and one without. only one from the head unit. hm.
