I'm going to be moving to Chicago in a few months, so I need to know this: What happens if I don't pass emmisions? Is there a visual inspection as well? I'm considering just leaving the car registered in FL this way i don't have to worry about it, do you guys see any problems with that? I know they have a parking sticker you have to buy every year, could i do that with FL tags?

Illinois people help me out! Emmisions related.
Ok here is how the emission's go in illinois
1. You go into the emission area, and the put your car on dyno, and run it up to 60mph, and test everying.
2. There is not a visial check at this point.
3. If you pass, then you are on your way, if you fail you have to come back after you get it fixed.
4. You have 2 more chances to get the car fixed and passed.
5. If you have failed 3 times, and you have spent MORE than $450 to try to fix it (so keep all your receipts) then you can get a waivor.
6. Before you get the waivor though, they have the right to look at anything in the car, they can check what they like in the engine.
7. If you move to illinois and have not registered or got your vehical emissions tested, the state has the right to revoke your licence and licence plates.

Wel las far as emmissions go, if you guys plan on legitimatly passing you are going to have to be able to tune the car. Get your gas flow low, not hardcore lean but HC is one of the gases is senses and that is unburnt fuel. So turn down the boost and gas flow if possible, make sure you have a good, clean cat, make sure your EGR works or is TOTALY removed, and if it is still there, make sure you have back pressure in your exhaust, at least at the point of where the egr tube/sensor is otherwise it will make you fail.
