Ignitor chip?

I'm not totally familiar with this nissan stuff yet.. I'm still partially a honda guy. But I'm wondering what the "ignitor" chip is? Doesn't sound like something on a distributor type system...

Can someone tell me where it is typically located, yO? thanks.

On the back of the valve cover on all rb20det,rb26dett and some rb25det. afaik all it does is amplify the ecu signal to the coil packs.

On a distributor type system I think they all do have igniters, but some newer ones are integrated with the distributor. Like the H22.
