hey everyone just got one question.

on my ca18det ignitor chip there are 2 openings, looks like for vacumn lines.

what should / shouldnt be hooked up here?

than any suggestions what these 2 openings are for?

ps, lease ran out on the shop so no time to tinker with that gt2860r turbo to fit and going to sell instead

If I remember correctly, it is just a middle piece, connecting a vacuum source to something... the carbon canister, maybe? The igniter module itself does not use a vacuum signal.

Got a picture? You're either not talking about the igniter or your using a really strange one.

This is what mine looks like (EURO CA18DET, though). There's an ECU controlled solenoid in it. It was connected to the FPR in some way.

According the the FSM, top fitting goes to a manifold vacuum source, the one below it goes to the top of the FPR, and it doesn't say anything about where the bottom one goes, but mine has a hose on it, as you can see. I don't remember what that was connected to.

Frankly, I don't understand the purpose of this device, and why the FPR doesn't simply receive manifold pressure directly. Guess it's just another one of those CA things.

ohhhhh, thats the stock boost control solenoid. i cant remember what it does exactly but it has to do with control of spooling the turbo iirc. please correct if wrong tho

It's SUPPOSED to be a valve for the FPR if you read the FSM. The idea is that in a heat soak situation, the fuel boils out of the rail and when you try to start the car, it takes a while for the rail to fill back up with fuel and so the car doesn't start immediately. This valve is supposed to open and reference the FPR to the atmosphere so that it won't close down when the fuel pump primes up and the rail can fill with fuel faster. But that's what's listed in the European FSM, and I can't read the JDM FSM and I've often wondered if it was a boost control solenoid on the JDM cars.

you may be right float. I was reading in another guys 89 silvia gt28rs turbo swap thread that they have a boost control solenoid but im not sure where exactly. im assuming your guess is as good as mine. either way im sure it can be bypassed, just not at the approval of Nissans engineers lol

there's no boost solenoid on the CA18DET - what you're looking at is the hot start solenoid - doesn't control boost, just usually breaks and causes the car to run lean.

it does this by affecting the vacuum/boost that the FPR sees (you'll see there's no connection to the actuator at all).

Under what conditions does this solenoid switch the FPR reference from the intake manifold over to atmo? What's the reasoning behind it? What would it cause to skip out this part, and just plug the FPR straight into the intake? Could it cause a lean idle (JUST idle)?

Everytime engine start and no vacuum to FPR for a period of 180 seconds, you can find it in EDM FSM EF & EC -20
It is for higher fuel pressure and for better starting, don't worry, my CA18 didn't connected for years and no problem on starting.

I knew I've read about it somewhere in the FSM! Thanks!
