i have the factory plate that had the factory boost controller and that crap. there is actually 3 holes that the plate screws onto on the side of your drivers side strut tower

when i did my redtop swap, i sent the harness to yury at wiring specialties.. when i got it back the ignitor chip was on the passenger side.. i removed it from that mounting plate and junked everythign else on that mounting plate.. my ignitor chip is dangling/zip tied up on passenger side

alan, the stock location from the jap spec is mounted on the exhaust side. when i do swaps, i prefer to move it over to the intake side of the bay for the express reason of the heat issue.

zip tie-ing the ignitor chip should be a big no no. it's not a rigid mounting method and allows it to bounce around too much. What I prefer to do is mount it where the cruise control unit should go. There's already a predrilled hole I can run a long bolt and washer through, and generally with the other bolt, I have to drill a hole (the other stock hole for the cruise is spaced a bit too far). BTW, that's using the slightly larger ignitor from the pulsar NX. Mounting the SR ignitor should be no different. Just please don't zip tie it down.

You're right, stupid placement for such a device.

agreed. best placement IMO would be in the cabin. Preferably by the ECU. Would be nice and cool down there compared to the engine bay.

I like in NASCAR how they have redundant ignition boxes for the sole reason that one will fail due to heat.

i dont understand why you say it's hot on the passenger side of the engine... the hot side is the exhaust manifold side... it's doesnt get that hot right around the intake manifold and cold pipe..

excessive vibration is one side effect of zip tie-ing it in place. Unless it's mounted to a plate via bolts, it's gonna vibrate around as the car does. Second, it looks bad. Zip ties are good for tying back wire bundles and holding a few things in place, but should never be used to mount critical components.

That side of the engine bay is cooler than the driver side by far, but when I say put it in the cabin, that would be the optimum place for it. The engine bay gets heated unless you vent it, so the passenger side of the bay still sees heat. The best place to put the ignitor would be a spot that doesn't see much heat, such as the passenger side kick panel. It's why the ECU is placed there.

I mount ignitors on the passenger side of the engine bay.
