ok so i have already run into the first problem with the Q I have read a bunch of ignition problems threads but none seem like mine When i try to start the car the key goes in fine and turns fine but when turned to he start position nothing happens if i turn the key back and fourth a few times (from the start pos to the off pos) it "sometimes will start seems to me there is a loose connection is this common ? After reading the other threads i dont want to go to far and screw up more than i need to to fix it like some others have done.

You might need a new ignition lock. Then you have to decide what to do about the door, glovebox, and trunk locks.

If PO was a building superintendant and kept 2 lbs. of keys hanging off the ignition, it is most assuredly worn out.

Hmm could be im hoping not... The PO had the same tase as me in keys and has nothing else on the car rings but the car keys all other keys house work, ect are on there own ring ( this also makes it easier to take different cars if you have more than 1) As far as the key cylinder it turns freely in both directions and the key does not have much play inside of it.... However i did notice that if i turn the lights on when trying to start it i get no dimming of the lights at all..??? I have wiggled everything while turning the key to the start pos ( shifter , key , stering wheel. Also both batt cables are tight on the batt

Well, you might remove the lock cylinder or at least check it's connections.

Something's not right.

Yea i just got back in from checking the fuses and what not trying to use FSM's trouble shooting page for starting but ..... well i guess if i cant figue it out ill just go to a push button start .. Also just to add this for trouble shoting purposes i have 3 keys and have tryied them all not sure why it would be any different but i did it anyway After removeing the cover over the ignition cylinder it looks like all the connections are on the unit it self can be wigled from left to right but only about a 1/4 inch in both directions. I am really stumped. For those who like all the info This Just happened it did not show any signs of slow or hard starting just got in turned key and had nothing

I found these threads about the ignition switch - some good diagrams in one:

92 Q power lock relay

Ignition Switch or ECU

Q45 ignition switch fading fast

1994 Q45a Starting Problems

And there's a possibility it involves your starter or its wiring path:

95 Q45 intermittant starting problem

Sorry I didn't make the connection before - you're the one with the Q out of Florida that's been sitting for awhile.

I'd look the relays over real well - probably should plan some time under the hood to check and clean other connectors like the MAF and CAS, too (not related to this problem).

Not necessarily. I believe you can swap 'em though, color for color. If the problem moves - bingo!
