I was thinking about some cost effective security devices to use on my car to keep it safe from theives and i plan to use a momentary on button. My plan is to hold the button while turning the key and pushing clutch to start it. I am ok with electrical work but no great. So the plan is to find the wire that is only 'on' when the key is turned all the way. put a switch on it, and put the switch out of sight. Does this sound right? thanks for the :help

well another thing you could do is put a switch on the signal going to the ecu from the maf. It'll choke out and die. I've got that since I have a S-AFC II that's removable via serial cable, and since it cuts into the maf signal, the ecu will die when not plugged in, or if there isn't a signal from the maf. I'm not too sure if it's healthy for the car, but I've accidentally started my car without the afc installed before and yeah...but I've gotten better!

um as for your question about the ignition, I'll have a look at my alarm as I've got a starter kill on it.

well first off a button like that can be ripped off and shorted out in less than 10 seconds tops.

personally if im goign to leave my car in a low-brow parking lot or if im storing it for 4 months (which i do twice a year) I go nuts on the fusebox under the hood. I take a few key fuses out and done =)

maybe consider a mod to the fuse box by the kick panel. im not sure what exactly is there but worth a try.

yeah i take out some fuses, but i am the real nervous type about my car. haha love it alot.obviously the button wouldn't be in plain site, thats the point, so no one would know to short it outyou would have to rip the dash out to see the wires etc. This would at the very least stall theives. I know if i was steeling cars i would rather find a car with no security **** then figure out some garbage a kid made at radio shack.

y not just install a hidden switch to the fuel pump??? like pulling the fuel pump fuse on the relay box, but hidden to only where u can find it??? that seems to be the simplest way instead of pulling different fuses out & may lose them...

fuel pump cutoff works well, or some kind of a kill switch on the coil/igniter power. if the thief doesn't know your car well then it will take them forever to find the problem and take your car. i have a few "safeguards" on my car like that and i trust they would work well against a theft.

another good thing is a type of breaker fuse that you can install at the batterie to shut everything off to the car ,, if you locate the main switch under the fender it would be nice and quick for grocerie store trips too. it also works great to save your batt from drains and in storage,,, + if you get a short it'll throw but your car can keep running off the alt

downfall is you'ed lose presets on stereo and any alarm would have to be seperatly wired, from the car... can always mount a backup batt to the radio to save presets

to keep it from being towed is another prob, buddy of mine is a TTdriver.. he has never had a car he couldnt tow... maybe with a super high tech wheel loc that indipendantly lock all 4 wheels if the car changes in elevation? lol good luck building that system, just get onstar or some crap,, hid it good, if stolen,, have cops find it,, or just get better insurance,
