checked timming tonight and it was set at 25 degrees btdc with engine warm and all sensors functioning properly (no codes in ecu). i already set it back to 15 degrees btdc. is it possible that it was set that high because octane levels in japan are alot higher than here? what do guys that run race gas set timming to? just going over the whole car to get it ready for summer. thanks it is a jdm rhd by the way.

most likely someone took the CAS off for service and out it back without dialing it in, and when running an N/A extra advance can get you a little more power, in a turbo it can get you a new motor

a higher octane means a slower burning gas witch means you can run more advance and get more power out of it alot of people think by running race gas in there car is going to make it faster witch is not true unless your car is set up to run that fuel you will actuly lose about 5- 6 hp from what i have found a higher octane requires a higher flow rate of fuel and a more advanced timing to make power another big advange is it runs about 4 degrees cooler but in your stock tune car 93 is more then enough 83 might make more power depending on your ride
