I have a 95 240

my timing is acting up, and I don't know what to do.

The timing is VERY inconsistent at idle, and just hops around. My timing light also blinks very inconsistently. I have no clue what's wrong..

throw some ideas at me!

#1. Is the motor warm when you're checking the timing? #2. any ecu codes?

Ok so describe your idle. Inconsistent doesn't do it. Does it oscillate, does it go to 900, drop to 400, then bounce to 1100 and drops back to 400? Please go into this into more detail.

Initial impressions: Have you checked the connections to the injectors? Is the MAFS clean? TPS in check? Distributor rotor and cap both clean? Plug wires not pushed down all the way? Possibly worn out plugs?

The idle is fine for the most part.

It runs pig rich, backfires a lot.

I have replaced the MAF and distributor recently.

Checking for codes is the next thing I need to do.

I replaced the temp switch, but I think I need to replace the coolant temp sensor, I'll check it today.
