So a couple of days ago my starter died, when i turned the key there was nothing (not even a click). Jumping it didnt work so I had my friend hit the starter while i turned they key and voila, it barely started. I had it figured on brushes but got a whole new starter anyways. i installed it and now I'm having a different problem, when i turn the key it just clicks and the starter doesnt turn. This problem is intermittent, happening ~every 7 times. I took it back to the guy who i got it from and he started the motor fine (several times) using a jumper cable connected directly to the battery. He then continued to tell me that it was most likely my ignition switch that had gone bad.

Any ideas?Thanks.

Hard to say forsure without tinkering on it myself but it could be the ignition switch... Ground wire... maybe even a dying relay

If I change the ignition switch do I have to get new keys too?

Edit:nvm i looked at vancouvers DIY ignition switch replacement...

another question, Can I test my switch with a multimeter to see if it needs replcement?

personally i would do a ground sweep. (clean all the grounds.) if it still happen i would look elsewhere. but i have had a problem with a reman starter before. car will start find 90 percent of the time but will not the other 10. replace the start with an oem original starter and never gave me any problem since. ps. i will stay away from the ignition system for now.

So you think it could be the new starter? it was a rebuilt one, not brand new. only thing is the starter works fine when jumped directly from the battery. it makes me think its the ignition switch cuz it happens intermittently.
