Suddenly, my ignition switch won't unlock, can't turn it at all. No question of wrong key. I did try all the keys I have (3) for this car. They work fine in the door locks. Putting the key in operates the seat position feature. Before tackling this, I want to know if I can get at the switch without pulling the steering wheel. I've never worked on a car with an air bag in the wheel. What do I need to know before I start on this? Also, judging from the key, I'm expecting an unusual cylinder. Other than more complexity, is the cylinder serviceable? Thanks

Just to confirm, the battery is fully charged and hooked up? Shifter is in park? Have you tried jiggling both the steering wheel and the shifter? Sounds like you know your way around a car, but just thought I'd ask. For the airbag, you can either disconnect the battery overnight, or (I think) you can pull the airbag fuse.

These are signs that thg lock mechanism (or sometimes just the key) are badly worn.

try wiggling the steering wheel and the key.Wiggling the key quiclly back and forth almost always liberates the key if you do it quickly enough..

Once you have the key out lubricate the lock with graphite powder.

Fred...:)

PS: There are a couple of used Q's being parted out on the buys sell trade board right now, in case u need a lockset. Mine will be added to that group soon.

If you remove the ignition surround, there is a red lever which should release the key. Then use gun solvent to clean the mechanism.

Mine did this a while back, but a good cleaning really helped.

Good Luck!

Thanks for including even the dumb things in your suggestions -- jiggling the steering wheel fixed it.

Thanks for all the good suggestions and the quick replies.

Use the gun cleaner anyway. Preventive maintenance.
