What makes you think its the power transistor?

90% of the time the transitor is fine.

Well, it was my mechanic who told me so. My J30 has 112,000 miles on it. About a week ago, my engine was running rough.

I took it in for my normal fluid changes and asked him to look into to it. I gave him my service manual. He came back and said that I am running on only five cyclinders and the it was my power transitor unit. I will found out tomorrow. I had the part deliveried to him.

By the way, I also needed a tie rod, which he replace and did the alignment.

I will let you know how I made out. If you have any input please feel free.

Thanks

Regards,

Frank

It is a 95 J30. I assume that in this unit it has 6 transistors, which one of them is bad. It is runing rough and loss of power. It does feel like it is running on one less cyclinder.

I mean the power transister. In the power transister unit, there are six transistors one for each coil pack. This is assumption on my part. The mechanic tested the coil pack and the ECM, by the engine service light doesn't come on. thanks -frank

Sorry, I forgot to update your guys, but my old power transistor unit had a crack in it. I had most of my problems when it rained.

It hs silcone covering the top of the unit. I quess to cover the crack. This was from the orginal owner of the car. Once it was replace it worked.

Recently, I have another problem with it, but this time it was a connection problem. My manchanic cleaned the connections and used Di-electric grease. The problem went away.

The credit to fixing the connection problem goes to NISTECH. He is a mod in the Nissan online mechanic section. He is awsome.

Hi,

The problem came back! The problem turned out to be a bad ECM.

I opened the old ECM. It looks like water damage was the culprit. I had corrosion on the circuity.

It was from a small leak on the passenger side winshield. It is not the orginal windshield. I am having it replaced before I put back the ECM. The ECM is on the carpet floor.

It has been a long road. I hope my experience will help another J30 or a VG30DE owner.

Thanks again for all your help.
