Car: 89 s13 hatch with 93 later KA24DE swap.

Symptom: Idle dies in 10 sec on the first start up. Idle dies in 5 sec on second start up and idle dies sooner and sooner in the following start ups. When flooring gas pedal, engine sputters and almost dies and I hear loud popping sound from exhaust manifold. If I gently press the gas pedal, engine can go up to red line on the first start up but on the second and later start ups, this becomes harder and harder as engine sputters more.

Question: Question: Could this be a ignition problem rather than fuel mixture problem? My fuel pressure check turned out normal.

Is your MAF connector loose? Mine was loose even with the metal clip. I tied it down with a cable today and seems to have fixed the random engine shut-offs.

What did you get for fuel pressure? how did you test it. I had a pump that was on it's way out and had the EXACT same symtoms--also when was the lass time you changed your fuel filter?

Dude! Thank you so much! You just reminded me a memory: the seller told me fuel pump was old and was better to be changed soon. He even gave me a replacement fuel pump! Totally forgot about this...

One question though... Did you have exhaust manifold popping too? An indication of rich fuel mixture as far as I know. Correct me if I am wrong.
