Hello,

My car is a 1989 240SX Coupe, originally with an ATXengine: KA24E out of a MTXquick history on the swap: i swapped all neccisary components for clutch and whatnot, its all installed, i spliced the 2 wire to enable the starter, it turns over fine.

When i was finishing up my motor swap the other day, i accidentally hooked up a cable that comes out of harness, around where the injectors are, to the positive batter terminal instead of the negative, i didnt notice anything was wrong until i saw smoke rising from the wiring that connects to the distributor. i unplugged it as fast as i could and tried to assess the situation. It melted some insulation off of the wire that goes to the dist. but that was all i could see. I checked the wire for continuity, and it checked out green. i replaced the distributor, because i had a spare.

HOWEVER, that same cable goes to 3 different places. one thick wire (that goes to the dist.), and 2 thinner wires, and i dont know where those go, and i dont have a conclusive wire diagram.

My problem is this: The car isnt throwing a spark.

I've ohmed the coil, checks out good, replaced the dist. as i mentioned, swapped out ECU's for my old one, no beans, still no spark.

does anyone have any idea what could be wrong?

oh and it IS throwing fuel and pulling a vaccum.

thanks

under the insulation are the wires melted together?

you need to trace the wire as far back as possible.. it can melt anywhere once hot. my guess is its melted to another wire.

also try to figure out where thoe other 2 wires run to.

im going out to the car right now to slice open the harness and try to figure out where the 2 wires go.

i'll post my findings

nothign was meltedapparently the cable i was referring to is something done by the previous owner, for whatever reason.

i re-attatched the ground to the cylinder head where they're supposed to be, and was still unable to start the car.

my dad is an electronics tech, so we checked the condenser and coil on the bench, both are within spec.

is there anything that might be in an auto car that would inhibit the ignition or something?

im not sure if i posted this before, but the coil is getting 12 volts on the primary connector, so i know its getting power.

anyone have any ideas? im out of them.

maybe I missed it in your thread but I didnt see anywhere that you had checked all your fuses in the car and under the hood?

it is really hard to tell what you may have done to the electronics in the car when you shorted that wire. It could have damaged the ecm or some other control unit. You need a wiring diagram to check all your powers and grounds. If you find they are all there the next step would be to moniter sensor inputs to the ecm and outputs from the ecm with an osilliscope.
