Ignition or harness short

Hello I am fairly new to the RB motors but ive done quite a bit of research and am actually stuck on some harness issues. The car ive got is an 89 or 90 240 hatch that was converted to Right hand drive and had the front and rear mocked up to look like the R32. The problems however rest in the rats nest of wires that ive been dealing with since i got the car; the biggest issue being the harness. To be specific ive been testing out the harness in the bay without the motor in to determine and work out any problems. The only problem i can see is that all the grounds past the ignitor chip plug are actually hot and im getting voltage on them....so far ive traced back all the wires to the ECU and all have matched up. so im stumped. Do i have a bad ignitor? or could there be a shorted wire in the harness? Any ideas would be helpful.
