My car was stolen and retrieved a couple of weeks ago. At first I thought I got off lucky without any damage, but lately I'm able to take the key out of the ignition and the engine stays running. Also I'm able to start the engine without engaging the clutch.Any ideas of what could be wrong with the ignition pack?

Thanks in advance.

Starting the engine w/o the clutch is the nuetral safety switch, I removed mine. Did they hotwire your car when they stole it?

I couldn't see any signs of hot wiring.I know when I first put the key in the ignition it didn't go in all the way even though the car started. The nect time I started the car I pushed the key in hard and all seemed ok, until recently. I wonder if they screwed up the ignition in the steering column, even though I can't see any evidence. Maybe they used some special tool.
