s15 sr20det w/ s14 kouki harness (wc)AEM plp standalone w/ speed density conversion 550cc injectorsWalbro fpNGK iridium sp - 4 months old, step colder than stock, gapped @ .28gt2871r tuned @ 21lbs, turned down to 17lbs

I believe my ignition is failing me after this past weekend of tearing the car down (pulled engine and transmission) to replace the transmission, clean the IAC valve, throttle plate, and clean the engine itself.

Also have experienced another problem before pulling the engine/transmission that has not happened again since then. While WOT, the car would pull fine all the way to redline (set to 7500), once I shifted I would have no throttle response. Felt like a fuel/ignition cut, but i did datalog a few runs like that and couldn't find a thing wrong with the tune or any issues with the datalog. This is what is leading me to what i believe is a ignition problem somewhere in the mist...

Just had my reputable tuner look at the tune to confirm that nothing has drifted away from his cal specs. AFR is 11.0 across the board... (conservative due to knock sensor at the moment)

Here's the questions...

Anyone else heard of simular problems or fixes?

What are the weak points of the sr20det ignition system?

What modifications are these 450hp sr20det setups running ignition wise?

My car is sitting in the shop waiting on the tuner (hopefully monday) I've been wondering if the S15 coilpacks are up to task. I'm only tuning it at 15psi on a 30R right now. I'll turn it up later assuming everything goes alright here.

I've noticed the coilpacks all share a single ground on the back of the block. Maybe giving each coilpack a ground will help things out.

I'll give that a shot and see how things go, posting back up what the difference is.

I've decided to just scrap the S15 setup and switch to the AC Delco 585 coils from the GM LSx. The coils are dirty cheap compared to splitfires or replacing JDM SR components.($20.00 + shipping on eBay) of course it does mean adding sparkplug wires, and trying to make GM stuff look good =P but it's a proven solution if you're running an AEM. There's a good writeup at KA-T.org.http://www.ka-t.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=26234

and some good tech info at the megasquirt forums.http://www.megamanual.com/seq/coils.htm

edit: lol i said denso instead of delco

Awesome information, so with this setup you'll be able to drop the ignitor chip too?

The stock setup on the S15 doesn't have an ignitor chip, it's built into the coilpacks. But for you since you use the S14 setup, yes you can ditch the ignitor chip as the GM coils have the ignitor built in.
