ignition lock problem

Car: 1997 Infiniti J30t

I took my 1997 Infiniti J30t (155,000 miles) to the local Nissan dealer, and they told me that the ignition lock needed to be replaced. They said that the part was over $500 (I have not priced it wholesale yet). Should I replace it with a new part, or should I go to a salvage yard? I plan to keep the car for at least 5 more years.
