My spare ignition keys stopped working after I bought another keyless fob form Ebay & sync'd it with my 2006 G35 coupe. Does anyone know if the dealership is the only option I have to make my spare keys work again?

Thank you in advance,

Welcome to NICO!

I think the key fob system only allows a certain number of keys to be synced with it at any given time. Usually 4 or 5 IIRC. As such, maybe there were too many keys synced with it.

I would try syncing the key that doesn't work any more with the system. That should at least yield you 2 working fobs.

Thanks for your reply. I was able to sync my new key fob with instructions which came with the fob, but how do I sync the spare ignition keys without going to the dealership & pay the big bucks?

Spare ignition keys?

You should have received 2 keys and 2 fobs. There may have also been a "wallet key".

All of the keys, save the "wallet key", are chipped. They are programmed to work with your anti-theft system.

You can't buy extra keys and just have them cut. They have to be cut and programmed by the dealership.

Adding another Fob to your system shouldn't have stopped your existing keys from working.

I bought my 2006 G35 Coupe used from CarMax & it came with only one keyless fob which is why I got another one from Ebay. It came with two ignition keys (with metallic silver key hole). It also has an ignition key with black plastic key hole and a "credit card" key. What is weird is that only one ignition key works (silver key hole) and none of the other ones, including the card key works. They turn the engine over but the car won't start.

The card key is for the door locks only. If I remember correctly, if you try to start the car with it, it will disable the car.

You have to go to the dealership...

Only the black key with the metal hole will start the car, none of the others have the chip in them.

I'm guessing the other key you got was actually just a copy. They only work for the door and the glove box. Nowhere else.

Joe,

My 05 didn't disable when I tried using a copy. Just turned over, but wouldn't start.

I believe that you have to sync all the immobilizer keys you have for the car at the same time. This is likely to try and prevent a service shop or valet from simply making their own key to try and steal your car later as doing so would render all other keys not synced at the same time, useless. It can be most effective if you use your valet key when you take the car in for service or drop it off with a valet so that when you pick the vehicle up and use your own key, you'll know right away that something is wrong...

Thank you all for the helpful comments! I am glad that I found this Infiniti forum where knowledge is shared.

Based on the comments, it appears that I should take all my keys to the dealership to have them sync'ed and pay the price. I think someone mentioned that a Nissan dealer can do it cheaper than a more "upscale" Infiniti dealer.

Regards,
