I Bought a 2003 M45 a few months ago, I drove it the other day and when I went back out to start it up the Key fob wouldn't turn. It seems to be locked up. The dealer said I may have locked up the engine. It burns oil badly & we loaned it out when I drove it home & turned it off to check the levels is when I noticed nothing on the dipstick. So, i topped it off and when I went back out an hour later is when I realized that the key fob will not turn to even put it into N, to have it towed. SO...My question is What do I do with my 2 ton driveway planter? is there any way that I could after the fact have a remote starter installed? Please help me if you can.

The key turns but the engine won't turn over? Or the physical key won't turn?

Also, welcome to the forum!

when I put the key fob into the ignition, it will not budge. won't let me even try to start the car. i just replaced the battery in the fob when I bought the car. If anyone can shed any light on the subject I would be grateful. I just put all new tires on three weeks ago.

I don't mean for this to sound condescending and I have no experience with this issue, but is the steering wheel locked to one side? Have you tried moving the wheel to get the key to turn?

I'd try mochaduc's suggestion. It could honestly be as simple as urging the steering wheel to either direction.

Also, sometimes the computer could take a little long to recognize the transponder chip (whether the correct one is present or it inadvertently fell during the battery replacement).
In this case, remove the metal blade from rhe key fob and insert it fully into the tumbler. You should immediately be able to turn the key to ON & ACC if the steering wheel is not locked.

Not many remote start systems documented for your year m45. I have seen a remote starter installed on one on youtube, but not much info on these forums.

So you have:
1. turned the wheel left then tried to turn the key
2. turned the wheel right and attempted the key
3. Tried using the metal blade
With your foot on the brake and none of those will work?

Have you been able to start and drive the car ever since you changed the remote battery?

What others said...I don't think anything is wrong with your engine, at least not yet. Let's fix the key issue first, then tackle the other issues. Dealer saying the engine is locked up because your key won't turn is a huge red flag...stay away from that dealer.
