Hey all, im not a regular but i can tell you that you have all saved me big $$$ since i bought my 97 i30 many years ago. Thanks, and Im back with another challenge.

Although its still cold here in RI, the weather will be turning soon and I will be forced to deal with this issue soon so here it goes.

When temp in my car gets hot (from being in the sun) my car will not turn over. Lights will come on, vent, radio..the whole 9, But not the ignition.

One time it happened to me when I got to my car after a full day of fishing, in a desperate attempt to get the car started I tried everything. Then (don't ask me how i thought to try this) I made a vent extension out of paper that made air from my ac vent to my ignition switch and in less than 2 minutes Viola! it started. That was my solution for the next month or so until fall came

So, Ive searched on the forum and havent found anything to similar. Ive heard of heat causing the main relay to act up but im not sure this is my case.

I'm assuming its gotta be something simple seeing as though my AC vent isn't even dishing out cold air since my car did not turn over.

Someone, when your done laughing, please hook a brother up! and I promise there will be many stories similar to this one available for your amusement lol.

If the starter switch doesn't play nice when it's hot, I'd start there. Swap that dude out

Then continue the troubleshooting process if this isn't a hard fix.

WD is right. You may have a problem with the switch or the wiring going to the ignition switch contacts. Here's a link on how to access the ignition switch.
