Hello all and thanks in advance for any help.

I have a 1991 300ZX that started blowing the 10A starter relay fuse in the driver's side kickplate fuse panel.

I have replaced it and although with a good fuse it will start the car, it blows right away and then it won't start again (obviously)

Any ideas as to where to start looking for issues?

Thanks again,

Nuno

So here is an update... I haven't done anything as far as troubleshooting goes, however this has happened: when I replace the fuse the car will start a random number of times (until it blows the fuse). When it does start (more than once with a new fuse) the shift lock also works. Once it blows the fuse, then it won't start and the shift lock will not release.

Any thoughts?

Ok another update... did some trouble shooting and can't get the damn fuse to blow... started it several times - with the brake pedal depressed, without the brake pedal depressed, shifted in and out of gear, waited, did all kinds of thigs and the fuse wouldn't blow.

BTW, I also checked the shift lock fuse under the hood and it was good.

Can't have it randomly blowing the fuse so will keep testing to see when it blows.

Could it be the starter relay sticking randomly?

It sounds like you have a short somewhere, or a loose connection. Check the connections at the starter, and make sure both leads are tight.

So here's another update... I have put in a resettable fuse (for the sake of convenience during troubleshooting). It seems to short out randomly during steady cruising (ie NOT under acceleration) and it only seems to do it above 50 mph (but not at any shifting point)

Wow, I got a reply and didn't even notice it. Thanks ZL8NING. I will try that and report back.
