Hopefully one of you all can point me in the right direction. I have a 1999 Infiniti QX4 that has about 200k on it, and worked fine until one morning I went to start my vehicle and instead of turning over it just sounds like it's trying really hard to, and when my buddy plugged a reader up to it and we check the code it mentioned the coil compressor (I believe) or the compressor in the distributor under the rotor button.

Mine looked like hell, so I went and got a used on from a friend to replace it and see if that would help, but I got nothing. One of my buddies did the old place a screwdriver in one of the connections and held it against the block to see if it would spark and we have nothing.

I'd like to avoid taking it to a mechanic because of funds and I like to do work myself, so if you all know any other unique ways to help me figure out whats going on I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks ahead of time folks, have a great day.

Sounds like your ignition module in your distributor is toast. Unfortunately, that is built in to the distributor and it is not serviceable by itself.

Welcome to NICO!

What specific code did it read?

Did you replace the whole distributor? And is it still turning over? If you replaced the distributor and didn't place it in exactly the way you took it out, you wont be getting her going at all.

Be safe with continual start attempts, don't depress the accelerator pedal. I blew my exhaust up from messing with the distributor. The fumes caught spark in the muffler and BOOM. The whole neighborhood came outside. :slap: Sounded like a bomb went off. Luckily, I have my hearing still.
