Are you talking the coils that fit on the spark plugs or the ECU in the passenger footwell?

The squarish finned metal assembly that mounts on each valve cover that contains the 4 transistors [etc] each of which switches the individual coils on/off?

Whereas the injectors get switched directly from ecu [inside transistors] the coils drawn more current and need bigger transistors with an external heat sink. The coils draw current for longer time than injectors as the spark is created when the coil primary is shut off.........plus it keeps the reverse spike out of ecu and away from ecu wiring harness.

More modern designs integrate the function back in ecu [more heat there]or build in on individual coils [more heat exposure]..........not sure I like either solution but transistors have improved in 15 years [maybe].

Lots of cars have coil pack problems [Maxima] but usually not Q at least the 90-95.
