i am having a very bad idle,i have to crank long to cold start(5 secs atleast),rpm shoots to 2500 rpm after a cold start and falls slowly to 1500 as water temp rises, just checked the ignition coils and wanted to share the outcome...

time to change the coils ?

Unfortunately, I can't see your pics while I'm at work. I'm bumping your thread so it'll be in my "View your Posts" search. I'll look at it this evening and try to help out.

should all be 1 ohm or less (each coil pack). I think your coils are bad. Although check your meter and ensure when you touch the meter leads together it should read less than 1 ohm itself.

shorting leads of meter reads 0.9-1.0 ohms, but sometimes it reads above 1.0 like (1.2,1.3 or even 1.5) can leads of the multimeter be growing old ?

checked again after shorting leads(reads to 1.0 ohms),the meter reads 2.0 ohms average on each coil.

try with another meter. I agree the meter leads getting old. Big difference from last time you were at 5.7ohm on each coil now it's down to 2.0. Strange. But they all read the same so it's a better sign. How are your spark plugs? also have you actually seen each coil fire?

will do soon, dont have another meter at home.plugs are doing fine.revving upto 8k never been a problem and yes coils do spark.

will update after charging meter leads and with a different meter.

lol sorry :gapteeth:

had been on a vacation, bought new cables and just checked.

RESULTS
shorting meter wires reads 0.2 - 0.3 ohm

checking coils reads 1.0 - 1.1 ohm

P.S wires were too old.

thanks to everyone.

EDIT : each coil has a CRACK on its side which seems to me abnormal, here is the picture...

yes sir they are doneski! this would indicate that the spark will leak through that crack and hit the head instead of fully hitting the spark plugs. You could fix possible with some LIQUID TAPE like the rb guys do. Search the rb forum about that. You'll get a better idea of what to do to fix. I think they are salvageable instead of buying new. try that first.
