i have done a search here, but the results where just too confusing on the question:

how is it possible that some rb25det series 1 engines have an ign. amplifier and some dont... now i have an rb25det engine and am stuck with my (s13) swap because we cannot figure out whether the ign. coils need an amp. or not...

how can i tell whether i need one or not (maybe some hints on the wiring on the coils)???

please help...

thanks,

nick

there are 2 series of R33 RB25's

Series 1 have an igniter

Series 2 do not.

there are also wiring differences between the 2, a series 2 RB25 is alot easier to wire into a S chassis as there is no need to wire injector power or the ignition relay.

the easiest way to tell is to look at the wiring harness, if the coilpack harness plugs directly into the main engine harness there is no igniter needed. if the plugs are different and do not match you need an igniter.

hmmm... thanks for the reply man...

maybe i should have mentioned that the full wiring that i received with the skyline engine didnt somehow fit, and i bought one for series 1 rb25det from australia... this also didnt line up good with all the plugs...

so my mechanic and me decide to use the stock s13 CA18DET wiring, and simply add the additional wiring on the main wiring...

therefore i am now missing this vitale piece of info, whether i should directly connect the coils to my power fc , and if there needs to be an ign. amp. in between... from wiring diagram its really hard to tell

@EH? : maybe you can tell me whether the POWER FC can support the coils without an ign. amp. or it needs one to run them...

thanks !

All rb25det's have ignitors, whether an external seperate unit like the SI or internal in each coil like the SII's. The bottom line is you need an ignitor somewhere or else it won't work.

Take a pic of the igntion part of the harness, maybe you got a SI main with a SII ignition harness or vice versa.

WOAH WOAH WOAH!dude, you NEED the rb25's wireharness, you CANNOT use the ca's harness and while it is possible its not gonna be worth the headache.get a rb25 harness, then go from there, DONOT USE THE CA HARNESS.

@ BOAH BOAH BOAH : i am almost done with the wiring my friend ... the only thing which i am stuck on is this ign. amp story... i think that its much easier to use the CA harness which is already attached to all the fuses and relais, instead of having to rewire all the stuff... with stock CA, you just add the additional wires for the 6 cylinders... but you are right in the sense that its easier with a rb25 harness because there are all the fitting plugs for the engine on it...

@eh?: thanks mate... i will go and make a pict of the coils and the wiring tomorrow... btw, did u sell your PFC yet ?
