This thread confuses me...

I read here that people in the Middle East hate the US because we didn't stick around to help rebuild Afghanistan after the Russians bailed.

I read all over the place that the people in the Middle East hate the US because we are sticking around to rebuild Iraq after the change in government.

Damned if we do and Damned if we don't.

Maybe we didn't stick around in Afgan because it wasn't us that caused the war?

I wonder what Germany and Japan would look like today if we hadn't stuck around to help rebuild after WW2?

Just some thoughts and questions. Sorry to leave the Kabob tangent. lol.

but see we did cause the war. Afghanistan became a front in the Cold War. We helped destroy the country. As a result, we should have stayed and helped rebuild. We were too busy getting caught up in the Iraq-Iran war, another CW front.

Also,We arent hated in the middle east for our involvement in Iraq. We are hated there for our "supposed" superiority. Its tough to make friends when you call them backwards, uneducated, and uncivilized. Alot of good democracy has brought.

We didnt cause the war in Afghanistan, we escalated it after the Soviets invaded and cracked down. Agreed, we helped raze the entire country with the help of the warlords, the communist government and the Soviets.

The middle east (regardless of whatever races of people, religions, or names you want you put on it) has always been a wealthy area. Wealthy in culture, people, knowledge, richest and trades.

However, due to the rapid expansionism that the anglo-saxon went through and their lust for ownership of wares, has caused the white man to expand far greater than that of any other race of man on this planet before. In fact, we've expanded so much so, that we've overstepped our boundaries and now that our seat is starting to become a rallying point for others against the culture that bread us.

You cannot deny that America was founded by White Christian Men.. although, they may say for equality, and under god to practice any religion, and all that blather; but the truth of it is; is that they implied THEIR equality. So, their standard was white christian male america, and that's what the rest of the world hates.

For as Republican and Conservative as I am.. I love this world.. and I love America, as flawed and ugly as they both are.. and, while I do believe that you should put a rabid animal down, I do think that there are some cases that are still worth saving. Do I think America is the one to save them? No. Do I think that they'd even accept our help? Probably not. Would I accept America's help if I were in their case? If a gift horse were a wolf such as that, hell no I wouldn't accept the help.

The same thing goes with Serbia/Montenegro and the Turkish rule over their country. Or, the serbs or croats in hiding in Bosnia.. it's all the same. Lines have been drawn, and nobody can really make sense of them, but, one thing's for sure.. somewhere along the line.. America had something to do with it.
