im running a nismo t stat in my rb, has not failed me yet, its been in there for over 2 years. mabey the knock offs you get from discount auto parts ie stant t stats may fail, i have never heard of a nismo t stat failing, unless the installer puts it in backwards, lol,Steady_One_S13 wrote:I'm sorry that you feel that way about aftermarket thermostats. I have the Nismo thermostat (Sr20) and it opens up @ approx. 140-160. My old stock one opened up @ 180-190. Nismo makes a thermostat for the KA24deas well.
If your just gonna go and drill a bunch of bypass holes in the thermostat why even run one?s13rb25det wrote:cras n burn, could you tell more about this t-stat mod. I am assuming that it is if the t-stat fails and shuts closed that the engine will not overheat because the 3 holes act as a bypass for the coolant. is this correct.? also how are the holes drilled? are they all on the top ot the t-stat in a row or in a triangle pattern? also does it take a long time for your engine to heat up because of this mod?
well if all fails again... im gunna go to the nissan dealership and get one of them stock ones... how much did u pay?Shabbernigdo wrote:i bought a thermostat at autozone and it worked for a whole 0 seconds. So after a lot of b****in i had to pull it all apart agian then test the thermostat and sure enough it was bad right out of the box so took it back went to nissan bought a stock one and havent had any problems since.
long story short just buy a stock one from the dealership and be done with it.
im guessing that the bypass hole let in some but not enough to mess things up... basically it kepps coolant flow to a minimum.Shabbernigdo wrote:

all you need is the one at the top to let the air escape.
