If i were to buy an s13 what kind should I look for? So far I'm looking for a sr20de hatch.... seems like the best combo to me assuming the det is out of my price range. Any help? Is there a big step up from the ka to the sr20? Also what price range am I looking at for the sr?

Best way to do it is to get the service history and a Carfax for the car in Question then worry about everything else. Because if that checks out then the more money you will have for mods. Obviously make the seller provide you with the info above.

There isnt a step up.Similar performance at a much lower price.CA18 is much better bang for buck.

And dont bother with an SRDE, waste of cash when you can get a CA18DET for sub 1k

get whatever you want. why get a na sr? just stick with the ka. looking up a carfax on a swapped car seems kinda pointless. just look at the car, its not hard to tell when a cars been hacked up or wrecked badly in the past

Look for rust. It'll come back to bite ya. I look at stuff I'm going to have to fix eventually and decide whether its worth the price/work. Rust, Dirt, Interior, Body Damage, Engine Bay nastiness, Motor work, any electrical problems. Stuff like that. Ask how many owners there has been; if he knows thats cool if not, not a big deal. Lower amount of owners tend to show the car has been cared well for. Let us know if any of this helps. I'm on the look for a new white coupe.

OP, what is your price range. Budget and so forth. S13's are nice but can you afford a newer maybe unmolested S14. Depending on where you are looking the S13 chassis may not always be the cheaper option considering the age and issues the S13 bodies tend to have with rust and u never really know what you are getting unless you have been around a while. If it is your first S chassis car, I would suggest looking into the S14 body. Just look for major issues, drivablity problems. Make sure to drive it of course before buying. Dont however get excited about any car until you are sure that car is going to be worth it. I had 4 hatches at one point and only one of them was worth anything. (btw, I didnt buy any of them they were all given to me for one reason or another)

Hatchback FTW (no headbanging smiley?) anyways I decided to keep my 540i as a DD and looking into the s13 so I'd rather find one bone stock with less miles and no rust then one with this and that but a lot of miles for obvious reasons. Only thing is, how many stock s13's are there now? haha Price wise...... $3,000 sound reasonable for something to start with?

Inspect the strut towers, bolt holes under the hood, frame rails and gas tank straps for rust you don't want that to bite you later. Also stomp on the floors abit make sure their solid. Check for any exterior rust. Other than that stick with the ka, their a tough motor

oh snap!! those prices are awesome! this shop is legit huh?... I have seen it advertised here sometimes....

Nali, for the CA18, to be able to run power steering and AC. I would need the DOHC stuff? like with the SR?...

advice for the OP, buy a DOHC chassis unless these parts are available around your area. thats whats holding my swap plans for the moment.

You really need a font clip to get a CA working right. Also, you aren't considering shipping and install time. None of you 240 guys ever do...

Tiger has a 50/50 reputation. Sometimes they are great, sometimes they will screw you. Hard.

AC is similar to the SOHC, power steering uses the DOHC pump, it will work on the motor.

I wouldn't mind a swap but yeah I don't care about the body too much (although I'd prefer a red hatch) as long as the engine is in good running condition. I didn't know the 240 only came with those are they both dohc?

Wow.

You should look up the History of the S13 Silvia, S13 180SX, S13 200SX and S13 240SX first. You're gonna get flamed.

Caveit, your best bet is to do alot of research on 240's because you dont seem to know anything at all about them. I'll even help get you started with the most basic of info.

I think I've become a little more confused in my research. So 180sx is japan only? I'm just confused about chucki and zenki.

Yes. SO is the Silvia.

200SX in S13 form is European only.

Look, all these questions have been asked and re-asked a thousand times, so just search, OK? Look around for your answers.

Alright if this is right then I'm clear. All s13s made in the U.S. came with pop up headlights?

zenki and chuki are just defined by the front bumper. The zenki is also aka the pig nose.the 180sx came out in japan had the pop lights with the hatch and had the ca18det and later the sr20det.the siliva has a different front end(no pop up lights just regular headlights but is sexy)the 240sx came out with the ka24e(single cam) and later the ka24de(twin cam)

No. this is not what those words mean. See, just research it yourself and don't ask these fools.
