Idling

When car idles at lets say drive thru fast food, my versa makes a popping noise coming the engine is this normal??? could it be the engine fan or the timing belt??

Has everyone notice any like popping or rubbing noise while in idle at like drive thru fast food or sitting a traffic light???

Is the A/C on by any chance? The A/C compressor kicking on makes a "pop" noise on every car I've owned...usually only noticeable at low speeds or while idling like you describe. Turn off the A/C and see if it still happens.

If your A/C was on the above poster is correct. It's your compressor cycling on and off in order to maintain a constant cabin temp. Very noticeable during idling due to no wind noise and engine revving.

If your A/C was off then you might have a problem.

Some noise is produced by the injectors and valvetrain, and as mentioned above, the AC compressor. Can you not hear this noise when parked, with the hood up? If so, try to pinpoint the noise, and please be more descriptive on the frequency of the sound.

Sometimes if I turn car off after a long drive like an 50 mile plus drive on the freeway and that includes passing cars. Then later come back start it up again, the it sounds like a fan on high and goes to back to quiet and thats with A/C off almost like a loud humming noise for a few seconds then the nose goes back down.
