Ok guys, 90 Q45 246k. I've got a problem with my idle. When I put it in drive everything is fine I think although it idles at about 1100. The problem is that when i shift from drive to park the idle shoots up to 2200 then down to 1600 then back up to 2100 then down to 1700 before finally resting about about teh 1600-1700 range. What in the world is going on? Thanks for the help.

Nick

Absolutely not normal! After warm-up it should be around 600-700 RPM tops! I think the spec is 600+/- 50 RPM. I suspect someone has been messing around with the throttle cables... they need a certain amount of slack to keep them from binding. Just hope no one has tried to adjust the screws on the throttle body. Usually you're better off finding another one in a junk yard instead of trying to adjust it yourself.

Try unplugging the AAC valve (back of plenum near firewall) and see what happens... I suppose it's possible that someone has adjusted it out way too far, but from what you're saying it sounds more like binding cables or fast idle cam problems.

Hmmm....I'll have to do this next week over spring break. About how much money are we talking here if i have to replace the cables or fix the cam problems?

Thanks,

Nick :)

Of course, the *ususal* problem is the MAF connector. :-)
