Hi guys, I've just finished installing my hotshot header, carsound hi-flow cat, and trust catback exhaust. The installation went relatively smoothly (except that part where the egr tube needed to be modified to fit the hot shot hole - source of problem???).

Ok, so I was taking it for a test drive and it feels faster, sounds better, and everything is A OKAY. Until about 5-10 minutes down the road, I start having idle problems and the car smells like it's "burning".

What we noticed before was that when we unplug the spark wires after the engine warmed up, some smoke came out of the wires - is that normal?

I am planning on changing the spark plugs, wires, distrib cap, rotor head (since I was going to do them in a couple weeks as part of my tune up anyway) tomorrow to see if that will alleviate the problem.

Also, when I pulled over after the engine was having rough idle (lower rpms almost like it's about to die, no super surges like the maf sensor problems) and popped the hood, there was some smoke coming from the engine block - YIKKESSS.

Does anyone have any input? None of this was happening before I installed the headers/exhaust and I have just done an oil change.

The smoke is likely just oil burning off the parts pretty common after heavy duty work like that. oil from your hands gets all over every thing. the smoke from your plug wires and your rough idle suggests to me you might have cleaned the engine when you got done and you may have got some water down in the plug wells and it is simply vaporizing but also is conducting spark to the head instead of the plug electrode.

This is assuming you have the DE set up.

I have the KA24E, sorry I didn't specify this earlier.

I hope your right and that everything is just vaporizing :). I just checked my ECU codes and got 13, 33, 45 - yikes!

13: Engine Temperature Circuit33: Exhaust Gas O2 Sensor45: Injector Leak

I'm hoping these just got thrown off when I put in the new headers, since they weren't a problem before.

Anyone know where the ETC is located?

I'm going to reset the codes and see if they come up again soon.

all three of those codes could be caused by the same failure. The coolant temp sensor could read colder then actual temp causeing the system to run rich locking the O2 sensor full rich making the ecm think that an injector is leaking. Check the connector on the coolant temp sensor for corrosion [ 2 wire connector located at or near the front of the intake manifold likely red in color]
