When I started my 300 up yesterday I noticed that it was idling at 2000. It was kind of chilly yesturday, so I figured it had to warm up, but even after driving on the highway it was still at 2000. Today it is really warm, and still idling at 2000, so heat isnt an issue. What could be causing this? I recently got my clutch replaced, could that have anything to do with it?

i seem to have the same problem. it has been happening for about a week now. oddly, sometimes it sticks at 1500...my mechanic came over and said it was the idle adjuster on the rightside of the engine, towards the back. i turned it right 2 times completely and it came down to the stock 700 rpm. then i drove off around the block, stopped at the shop and it was back at 2000. i kicked the gas, like tapped it, and it went down to 700. he said it could be that the throttle bodies are dirty and get stuck; the throttle bodies dont close to where they are supposed to. once i get those cleaned up, i will post up the results. meanwhile, if yo do not solve the problem, try tapping the gas, just once (but fast) and if it does not work, do it again. try up to 4 times, sometimes it just doesnt work.

also, it can be a vaccum leak. (that is something else my mechanic suggested)

i dont know if i am right, i need help too. so far that is all i got

You should also check your TPS. If closed throttle position does not make contact inside the TPS it wount idle down.

Please let me know your results of cleaning it out. The 300 is actually my bros car, and he wanted me to put this topic up so we might find out the problam. It only happens sometimes, like one red light it'll be at 2000, then next it will be at stock 700. I'll try and adjust that idle screw.

Ok, now the check engine light came on. He said he was just driving it and it started shaking and stuff. So I just got back in from trying to figure out the problam? What could be wrong?

now im thinking you maybe turned the idle contorl too many times...how many times did u turn it? if it was turned too many times it can drop soo low that the car will shake and probably die. notice that when u turn it, give it some time to catch up, sometimes it can take a minute or 2 to drop or raise the idle. i hope u get that worked out. i have not really cleaned the TPS or the TB's but im working on it, maybe this weekend

I actually just had a similar problem. Turns out my plug wire to #6 coil pack wasn't holding on that great..so I was getting a misfire..Dealer said they wanted 3200.00 to replace the ECU harness with a new one!!!!!!!! Wow..Zip ties from Wal Mart work great for now!

Well now the engine light mysteriously went away, and I didnt even touch the idle screw? Its running fine now. I'm glad to hear that the zip ties work I might have to try that.
