Greetings,
Im new to this forum. I've been lurking for some time and I'VE SEARCHED but could not find a straight answer so I'm hoping someone could give me a clear answer to this problem. I have a 1992 240sx coupe with 180,000+ miles on it with a stock KA24DE and i have a weird idling issue. While idling the car sometimes will drop under 1000 rpms and almost cut off. and then while driving the car will get up to 2500rpms and then start to stutter really bad and won't go away until i shift to the next gear. its back n forth some days. I figured it was a vacuum leak so i smoke tested the car and i fixed a few spots. car ran fine until i drove home and the stuttering started again. Any one have an idea of what could cause this. I plan on smoke testing again to see if i missed a spot but I wonder if someone could shine some light on this issue. Thanks

i would check your maf sensor and see if its dirty and also check your egr and see if its dumping exhaust gas in when its not supposed too. but just stay to the simples first

throw checking the ecu for codes on top of that, you can get the procedure in the Factory Service Manual (FSM). just search for it here on the site!

my 240 was doing the same thing, but on top of that my car would shake pretty bad at idle.I bought a fuel rail with the injectors in it from a buddy. Installed it and completely fixed my problem. This of course was after i cleaned my maf.MY 240 has never ran better since!!
Good Luck

+1 for MAF. Shoddy idle can be caused by a lot of different little things though. Your MAF and EGR valve would be the first things I would check first; beings that you already checked for a vacuum leak. If those don't fix it, I'd check your IAC-V because sometimes when they get old and dirty they'll stick and cause the motor to bog from improper fuel/air mixture and either stall it or cause the revs to jump.

yea it might be that because the car has cut off on me like 3 different times when this is going on. So imma just start cleaning away and hope for the best

ok so after a few trials i have cleaned the MAF, and the IAC-V and all the electrical connections. The car ran better for one night then started acting up again today. so i'm going to go ahead and diagnose the dizzy as i hav heard that is a common problem. below is a video i took while the car was acting up. when i rev up the throttle cuts at like 2500. i'm not letting off the gas. my foot was to the floor when revving.
