I have a 97' nissan HB 4x4. I had my timing guides break, and a hole was eat into the timing chain cover, rebuilt the engine, and JB welded the little hole. Ran perfect for 5 months, then I noticed I was a little low on Antifreeze, checked my oil and had a hint of AF in it. So I torn down the front of the engine, this time I took it to have the cover heliarc welded. , long story short I ended up having to remove the timing chaing and reinstall it, and put it all back togather. For the last few weeks,(since I got it back togather) I'm idling a lil' high. and I have kinda sluggish pickup. I'm currently at around --10BTDC. I've played around a bit and if I Advance the timing a lil, it idles around 1200 RPM, but the pickup is better, and If I retard it, idle is closer to normal, but it's like falling on it's face. I'm hoping I'm not a tooth off in relation to my cam/crank. A friend of mine has told me he things I would be missing or something alot worse if I were a tooth off. any help would be great. Thanks.

Check and double check any vacuum lines that could have been displaced during the timing chain replacement. Check the FSM also and make sure they all went back like they go. I just adjusted the valves on mine and had the same issue and while moving things around I knocked one off on the back side of the throttle body.

Hope this helps.

I've went through every vacuum line 4 times, I even printed off a deailed diagram of the vac lines. Yesterday I took out my seat and carpet, (cleaning) and tried to turn the idling down a with the ECU/ECM but when ever I turn the screw, there is no change at all in my idling speed at all, I turned the vehicle off, and switch on, and turn the screw to diagnostics mode and the check engine light went off. (it was on becaause of o2 sensor since I've had it) So I know the thing is working, but I don't know what's going on. I checked my Fast idle cam and everything is within spec, there isn't any hesitation, or missing or sputtering. Runs great, just idles high. prob idling round 1100-1200. Thanks again for any help

Can you not adjust the idle on the cable where it goes to Fuel injection throttle body. Most have an adjustment screw on the throttle body.

Does that have any affect on the idling of the vehicle? I will try it. I definetly had that disconnected a time or two. The simple things. Thanks and I'll let you know if it fixes it.

I've tried everything. Adjusting the cable didn' t help, I could only increase my idle w/ the cable. I've checked out my Fast idle cam, and I did tinker with it a bit, but it still didn't help, Perhaps it isn't working correctly.?? I'll take some pics tomorrow and maybe you all can help me out with proper adjustment. I did try unplugging the IACV and it seemed to idle down significantly, but I didn't wanna leave it unplugged cause i was unsure of the affects. Thanks again.

Still not working. I've tried everything I can think of. My fast idle is seems to be working correctly. Perhaps it is not idling down once it warms up all the way. It's only idling around 1000-1200. My tach doesn't work good, it jumps around erractily.

How's Your cooling system? Make sure your truck is in normal operating temps! I once had a bad thermostat and my truck never warmed up to where it idled normal! It was stuck open and my temp gauge did move but I guess that truck never reached operating temps and always was idling high!!

My temps are normal, however, I recently got a used radiator from pull a part off a 2 wheel drive truck, (mine is 4-wheel drive) As I was putting it in, I noticed it was about 1/4 to 1/2 thinner than the radiator that came off my truck. My thermostat is new, but after driving for a while few hours, it doesn't run hot, but when I shut it off there is boiling going on under the hood. if I leave it off for maybe 5 min then turn it back on, it is showing a ll hot, but quickly cools off. I'm not losing fluid or anything, but one thing I noticed about the small radiator is it holds alot less fluid. maybe even 1 1/2--2 gallons less. I've kept an eye on my antifreeze levels for the last few weeks, and I've not had to add a drop.
