I was so happy that everything was working perfectly so I decided to tidy up the wiring a bit. I didn't disconnect anything except I added some wire for the O2 sensor to hide the wiring better. (The car runs at 14.5 stoich on the road.)

Anyway, now my car idles at 2500 RPM and was running at 210 degrees. Before this time it never ran above 178. I think I may have disconnected something, but I can tell what. I've checked all the connections, and everything appears to connected properly.

Here's what I know:

* Disconnecting the AAC or TPS sensors affects the idle, so I think they're fine. When I disconnected the AAC, the idle went down, but I closed the bolt that controls the idle all the way and it still wouldn't idle below 1500 RPM.

* The engine temp sensor is new.

* Spraying starting fluid on different parts of the intake manifold didn't change anything. Spraying the air filter as a test did.

* Disconnecting the plug to the air regulator has no effect on the idle. I've also had some cold start issues and I have to crank the car three times to get it running when it's 70 degrees outside. I thought this was my fuel pressure regulator, which isn't mounted on the fuel rail, but maybe I was wrong.

Is it possible that my idle problems are due to a bad air regulator?

On the plus side, the engine bay looks better:

Any ideas are welcome. I really want to drive this again...

Thanks,

Check the bottom of the throttle body to see if the cap is still on the nipple. Thats only assuming you have it capped off. I had a super high idle once and it turned out that the rubber cap had a crack in it.

As for the over heating...???

Well, I've isolated the problem, I think. I clamped off the air to the air regulator and my idle idle problems went away. Seems like it was stuck open.

Before I go to the junkyard to look for a new one, does anyone know of any other possible cause for this?

Here's a picture of my ghetto fix:

High idle and overheating are typical symptoms of a vacuum leak.
