I have a 1991 240 SX the car starts fine and runs fine Idle 800rpm is good when in park but when you put it in gear it drops 500 but is still OK but when you drive it and bring the car to a stop it drops low almost stalling then brings itself back up and is OK about 500 RPM and starts off fine . 88000 miles on it just got it don't know much history.

Thanks for any help, Steve

I am having the same problem!

I idle at about 700 rpm. I drive fine, and then when I pop it into Neutral to come to a stop....THe IDLE shakes and drops almost to Zero...

It Does Not stall, but I feels like it is. Then It comes up to about 550 RPM.

WTF?

Same problem man.

I think we must adjust....Idle speed?

Just tell me how to fix my car, and not let the RPM drop to zero when I am comming to a stop.

1. Do I clean the IAA?2. DO I replace this Biatch?3. Test to see if it works?

Screw all the Diagnostics, (Battery current, Fuel, Ignition timing.)

All of which are good.

It's the DAMN Idle and Idle related stuff....Just tell me how to FIX IT.

No need to run a 10 page Diagnostic like checking my Tire pressure.

Please HELP! Quick, and Efficient!

WHOOT!

I fixed it.

All I did was Drive the car around for while.

1. Turn off the car2. Disconnect the TPS Throttle position Sensor.3. Turn on the Car.4. Rev the Engine a few times at about 2000rpm-40000rpm5. Adjust the Idle Screw.6. The idle sits at 8500 rpm7. Turn off the car.8. Plug back the TPS

Now the car sits at 7800rpm and it doesn't do that Shake and DIP when comming to a stop.

I was Right! Stupid Vancouver

Steve.

I just had the same problem you're experiencing. I took the initiative to fix it.

Adjust your IDLE SPEED.

Like your car, My car WAS WAS WAS IDLING at 7,00 to 750 rpm. When I popped it into NEUTRAL, the car's Idle drops to almost ZERO.So, I used COMMON sense. By Raising the IDLE Higher that FACTORY.FACTORY IDLE = 700 RPM (+PLUS OR - MINUS 50)WHICH MEANS, 650 RPM TO 750 RPM.

1. I drove the car around the block a few times. (Getting it nice and warmed up)

2. Turn off the CAR

3. Disconnect the TPS (sensor) which is zipped tied onto the Rubber PCV TUBE. (PVC TUBE =The one that goes from the PVC vavle(on the valve cover to the intake)

4. Start the car.

5. Rev the ENGINE from two Thousand RPM to 4,000 rpm.

6. Get a Phillips screw driver, TURN THE IDLE ADJUSTMENT SCREW COUNTER CLOCKWISE, (which opens up the AIR passage and giving you a HIGHER IDLE)

7. Rev the ENGINE again, and set the New IDLE to 1,100 RPM.

8. TURN OFF THE car.

9. Plug back the TPS (Throttle Position SENSOR)...

10. YOU'RE DONE!

11. Now that you're done, everytime you drive, the Idle will sit at less than 1,100rpm ....It will surely fall to 900. and you will not experiece the "Idle DROP".

12. Once you solve that Idle drop, you can go back and Lower the Idle a TAD bit.

X: Since we know that our IDLE DROPS VERY LOW and THE CAR TENDS TO SHAKES AND EVENTUALLY STALL.

XX: WE SET THE IDLE Higher that OEM standards to Ensure that If the IDLE does Decrease, we have "safe" tolerance. THUS it will not die.

XXX. I did this, and my car runs SUPER! MY car idles at 850 - 900 RPM

I am DEAD Serious. my car HAS 167,540 MILES. (1993 240sx COUPE, Base Model)

And It will smoke your car STEVE, I know how to TUNE my car. If you do not trust my Expertize, I suggest you go Pay a mechanic man.

GO download a NIssan 240sx FSM. Factory Service Manual.

It's all over the internet. DOWNload it.

I am helping you OUT man, If you don't want to Diagnose this problem. I care less. I am wasting my time to HELP YOU.

Duce, Peace. Good luck. Try it and you can Thank me later.

Yep, that is what we must do.

I've done this to all my cars. I had Hondas and Toyotas, and I never had any problems.

Raising the Idle a Tad bit, and see if the car adapts to it.

Before I changed the Idle.....The Idle screw was very TIGHT, and someone had Closed the Air Passage, I mean, Torqued it tightly closed causing the Idle air to be trapped.

Let me know how it goes.
