You mistakenly posted something about the rear brake lines in this thread, I moved that post to your other thread.

Yeah, reset the ECU by removing the negative battery terminal for a few minutes then try the idle air relearn again.

Yeah, it's a crappy job, but hopefully you won't need to do it again. Out of curiosity, did you use an OEM PCV valve? Where are you leaking oil from?

Yeah it was oem. "oil" was leaking out of ths one tube that had a nice long crack in it. The tube simply connected the 2 valve cover vents at the front of the engine. Probably to equalize pressure or something. Oil must have been misted/dripped out of this hole for a while, was a huge mess on the valve covers.

That is a breather tube part of the PCV system. I hope you replaced it with some new emissions rated hose (any other hose might collapse under negative pressure). That might be causing your problems.

Ya I got a new oem one. I just made a new thread, you can merge it into this one. I didnt think you were online and Im stumped with this dam car. It just doesnt do the relearn procedures. I havent successfully done a single one. First the idle air volume doesnt work at all. And now Im trying the throttle position reset, and not even that simple reset is working. Im really losing hope, and Im the most patient guy in the world!!

Perhaps the IACV is the problem here? Have you tried replacing it or cleaning it?

I have 2 iacv's here, got one out of a low mileage clean engine at the junkyard. The car has idled fine with both. SO I think there good.

I did just mess with the throttle position sensor this morning though since it was out of spec wit the feeler gauges. I got it bang on perfect now, and Im supposed to complete the adjusting of the sensor by reseting the position but it just wont take!!

Im almost sure I can get it running great if I reset this throttle position memory, my gauge shows 20% throttle when Im not touching it, so Im sure the 3 tries I did at the test were unsuccessful

Well Town. I got it running perfect. But not by any method of the FSM lol

I got fed up with failed attempts so I thought, since I can see realtime that my ultragauge is displaying 44% throttle, why not just loosen the TPS nuts and adjust it slightly til it said 0

Sure enough, worked great, idled perfect, barely jumped up in rpm when I started it. Idled @ 775rpm

BUT, I decided to check with the feeler gauges if the TPS position was still in spec, it wasnt, but it was barely out. But it was only out the ammount from where I originally adjusted it from. So I guess I just tweaked it back to where it was before.

So do I leave it and forget EVERYTHING was done wrong but it works. Or do I pick at it and learn more curse words??

Thanks for your help again bud

Well, whatever works... maybe verify you get a decent range of absolute throttle position still (mine caps out at 91% with properly adjusted accelerator/cruise wires). I don't see any downside to your fix. I'm glad you were finally able to correct the idle. 775RPM is within the specification of 750 +/- 50 RPM for idle speed with an automatic in neutral. And as always, I'm glad to be of help. :)

Still better than mine, ha. See my thread here. It's likely nothing to worry about.
