idle to high

car idles at around a grand more than it should when i start it sometimes/most of the time .

does it go back down when it's warmed up? When I start my car is goes up to about 1300 for a little, then drops to 700 with it's warm...

If it's at 1000rpms when warmed up, turn off the car, unplug the TPS sensor, start the car, wait a second, take a screwdriver and turn the screw on the intake mani until it get to about 650-750rpms and turn the car off... plug the sensor back in, and there ya go...

BTW, what year is your car? the idle screw is in different place on the sohc than the dohc.

wow Irb_2000 Thanx alot I leard a lil from you ima try that right now hahhaha...Cuase my idle is about 1k and after lyke 5 mins it backs down to 750...I feel if as the car is going to shut down on meah...I dunt know if I have to adjust my timing too...can you help me in that stiuations?

if it idles at 750 when it's warm then it's fine... it's supposed to idle kinda high when you start it up for a little bit...also depends on the weather, and if you have your A/C on, or heater going. But if you have a timing gun, it's really easy to check and adjust your timing... Just hook the timing gun up to the battery and the first plug cable, start the car, and shine it down to the crank pulley... you'll see little marks... it should be at 20degrees advanced.. the last mark on the right..just loosen the distributor and turn it until it's at that last mark ... it might be different for a SOHC though?

also, make sure the disconnect the TPS sensor for this too.

my car is an 89- but why will the car start up fine some days-the last time it ran fine i was going up my drive way and it died and would crank but not turn over. i just recently swaped motors to , but it had the same problem with the other engine

the idle will stay at 2g's for as long as ihave it on i can drive for a mile and sometime it will go down but most the time it will stay high all the time driving or at a stop light.
