hey every1, still new to my Z. Have this problem which has come to a head. when i start my Z some times it will shoot to 2500rpm and then idle at 2000 the whole time(even at temp) and some times it will shoot to 2000 on start and then die, tot he point where I have to start it and pedal it for a little bit to get it to idle, which ends up at about 1200rpm. im just too new to know if this is from the ecu, iacv or tb???

help!

Check codes first. Always check codes, even if there is no check engine light, there still can be codes stored in the ecu. Here ya go....

I'd probably guess your IACV is either really dirty or just needs replaced and your base idle needs to be reset.

You have to unplug the IACV connector and adjust the idle screw until it idles at around 800rpm warm.

Hey guys,
I did all this to adjust the idle, it's kinda high 1000-1100, i pulled off the the IACV connector and then adjusted the screw only to find that it had been lowered all the way. what next? why is it still high?

If you have access to another Mass Air Flow Sensor try that. I had similar problems. Basically my MAF would put out the right range of voltage so my ECU never thought anything was wrong with it and it kept trying to open and close the IAC as if it was trying to get it unstuck causing my car to sometimes idle as high as 3k rpm... and every once in a while the car would just die while I got my foot on the cluth. The MAF NEVER once threw a code but as soon as I replace mine with a new unit all my problems disappeared... matter of fact my ECU threw Fuel Temp Sensor, IAC, Random misfire codes but never a MAF code...

So anyways, the MAF could be giving the right range of signal so the ECU doesn't think anything is wrong with it but telling the ECU that less air is being sucked in then actually is creating a lean condition and a high idle in return.

Off course it could also be a vacuum leak somewhere creating a lean condition. Check for any cracks in the PVC hoses, Idle Air hoses and all vacuum hoses. If you took the idle air balance tube off at some point there is a good chance you damaged the O rings in the process
