idle pulleys necessary?

can i just remove the belts for the power steering and air conditioner without messing anything up? I saw how those belts go around the idle pulleys, but are those pulleys only their to be used in conjunction with the air conditioner and/or power steering?

what i want to do is eliminate those belts by going outside and taking those belts off and maybe net a few hp or response. thanks.

not sure about the 24e, but on the de the ps belt runs the water pump. if there is a seperate belt for the ac then yank it. but double check your water pump and make sure it has a belt.
