I was wondering what would cause my car to idle really high 2000-2200 rpm when i first start the car or sometimes when switching from drive into park. It is really annoying because when this happens i cant put it into gear because if i do the car will jerk really hard like the motor is about to fly out from under the hood! So i usually have to sit there for a good minute for it to go down or turn the car off and start it again. It doesn't do this everytime but once in awhile and like i said really annoying!

I'm going to take a stab in the dark and say IAC. (Intake Air Control) Whatever is stands for in Nissan land it regulates the idle speed of the engine. When they get old they tend to stick. Being an automatic, the engine need different amounts of finely metered air to maintain a stable idle during park, drive, A/C on, etc.

There are a lot of threads on the boards about them, if you have a few hours to kill you could try pulling it out and cleaning it up. It's a low cost place to start looking anyway.

I've cleaned it up and it still does it. My next step before i spend alot on a new one is to grab one at the junk yard and see if that helps.

Try cleaning the throttle body as well if you haven't yet.
