Hello to everyone, I am new to the site and I apoligize if I am posting in the wrong section. I am having problems with the idling on my 2003 sentra se-r spec v. I was told it should idle at around 750 to 800 rpm but mine was at around 1200 and it wouldnt pass smog... so i took it to the mechanic and he told me that the "butterfly" in the throttle body was problably dirty, so i cleaned the inside of the throttle body and since then my rpms just went nuts it goes up and down and it doesnt stay at a certain rpm. Any suggestions of what might have happened? or what is wrong with the car?

TPS or MAF are most likely. Try an idle relearn first.

Idle Relearn (do this if your idle is high and/or you get a high rpm code or any code pertaining to the TPS or idle)

- Turn ignition switch OFF and wait at least 10 seconds.- Confirm that accelerator pedal is fully released, turn ignition switch ON and wait 3 seconds.- Repeat the following procedure quickly five times within 5 seconds.a. Fully depress the accelerator pedal.b. Fully release the accelerator pedal.- Wait 7 seconds, fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for approx. 20 seconds until the MIL stopsblinking and turned ON.- Fully release the accelerator pedal within 3 seconds after the MIL goes off.- Start engine and let it idle.- Wait 20 seconds.- Rev up the engine two or three times and make sure that idle speed and ignition timing are within the specifications.

You can do it in your driveway just as easily for free.
